Baywell’s Cybersecurity Best Practices
Baywell’s Cybersecurity Best Practices in Detail
Enhance your online security with these essential steps:
1. Enable Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) wherever possible, such as with Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace accounts.
2. Keep your computer protected by regularly installing security patches.
3. Safeguard your data by encrypting your entire hard drive using Microsoft Windows Device Encryption or Bitlocker Encryption. MAC users can enable the system’s FileVault Encryption option.
4. Strengthen your computer’s defense by activating the built-in firewall. Make sure to disable the discoverability of your PC by others, unless you intend to share files or folders with others on your HOME network.
5. Protect your computer from malware and viruses by installing reliable Antivirus/Anti-Malware software.
6. Simplify and secure your passwords using a trusted password manager like LastPass, Dashlane, or Bitwarden. Create unique and complex passwords (15 characters or more) with a combination of uppercase letters, lowercase letters, numbers, and symbols. Alternatively, use a combination of random words with complex character separators and numbers, making them memorable for humans while difficult to crack for computers.
7. Ensure your online privacy and encrypt your connections by using a reputable VPN service. Baywell recommends our affiliates, NordVPN or PureVPN, both of which we use on our own computer systems. Full reviews for each product coming soon.
8. Protect yourself from suspicious and infected websites with a reliable website filtering service. All Baywell Clients have access to DNS Filtering Services and Zero Trust Browser as part of our Unlimited Managed IT Services.
9. Prevent data loss by regularly backing up your files to a cloud service that offers end-to-end encryption.
10. When not using your computer, remember to log off instead of just closing the lid on your laptop. Additionally, it’s advisable to reboot your computer at least once a week for optimal performance.
Take proactive measures to protect your digital world and enjoy a safer online experience.
